Set the stairs flush against the sofa or bed so there's no gap at the top.
Introduce the steps gradually
Let your dog sniff and explore. A treat on each step helps them learn the way up.
Let them climb at their own pace
Stay close, keep it calm and give them time. Every dog learns at their own speed.

Tip: place the stairs on a rug or a non-slippery floor and push them right up against the furniture.

Both versions share the same soft sponge core and washable cover. The difference is how gently your dog climbs — and how much floor space you have.

Tip: measure from the floor to the top of your sofa seat or mattress. If it's higher than the top step, your dog takes one final small step up — which is why the gentler 3-step version is usually easier for higher furniture.

Will my dog actually use the stairs?

Every dog is different, and some get used to new stairs faster than others. Start with the stairs on the floor, reward each step with a treat or praise, then move them beside the sofa or bed. Keep sessions short and positive, and let your dog set the pace.

Is this only for senior dogs?

Not at all. The stairs suit any small dog that finds the jump onto the sofa or bed a stretch — short-legged breeds, small dogs and older dogs who have started to hesitate.

Which height should I choose?

Measure your sofa seat or mattress from the floor. The 2-step reaches approx. 31 cm with steps of about 15 cm. The 3-step reaches approx. 35 cm with lower steps of about 12 cm. For very small, older or cautious dogs — or for higher furniture — the gentler 3-step climb is usually the better fit.

How much space does it take?

The 2-step takes up approx. 40 × 40 cm of floor space and is 31 cm high. The 3-step takes up approx. 40 × 55 cm and is 35 cm high. Dimensions are supplied by the manufacturer, so allow for small variations.

How do I introduce my dog to the stairs?

1. Let your dog sniff the stairs on the floor first.
2. Place a treat on the first step, then on the next one.
3. Push the stairs flush against the furniture and encourage your dog to climb from the bottom.

Try not to lift your dog onto the top step — climbing from the bottom helps them learn the way up.

What size dog is it suitable for?

Pawmere stairs are made with small dogs in mind. The manufacturer doesn't specify a maximum weight, so we won't guess one. Because the stairs are made from sponge, they're best suited to small, lightweight breeds. Not sure about your dog? Ask us before you order.
